March 13th, 2010 Posted in Shanna's Blog Entries219k- yikes! this morning i woke up at 6am to catch an early ride in weatherford. I felt like hell when i woke up but i got my butt out of bed to do this ride. I showed up and only 5 people were at the ride. It was really cold for some reason…..the wind. I was hoping that someone fast would show up and there was this guy named Gary gotlive? not sure if that is how you spell his last name. Gary rode 20,000k last year and no one rode more k’s in the RUSA association other then one guy in Seattle. Gary is a maniac on the bike. I knew i was going to try to stick with him.
we all took off out of the parking lot and on our first hill the others were gone and decided not to play with us. I waas thinking ” so much for riding in a group.” we did not even get to chat for 10 minutes. My ears were cold but we were riding a nice pace on some really nice roads. It had lots of turns but Gary new the way. We got to our control a few minutes early. there are rules on these RUSA rides and one is that you cant be over a certain speed. We waited only 3 minutes to get our passport thing signed and then hit the road again. Gary was driking chocolate milk. I should have had some too but I did not pay attention to how long it was going to be until we stopped again. It was a long time after this stop. We had wind all day and the last 37 miles was going to be a tail wind. i road on Garys wheel most of the way. We got to the second stop and my tank was empty. I headed for the chocolate milk myself. I dont usually hit the simple sugars but I wanted some calories. After this store was when the big hills started. We wer on some road i was familiar with and climbed a hill called Cherry pie. Our last sag was 25 miles from the end and I was really hungry by the time we got here. I got some chocolate milk, a rice krispee treat, and a corn dog. The corn dog waas not going to give me energy but it was more for my craving of putting something in my stomach. The last 25 miles was on a road that was named Ronnies revenge. it was really hilly all the way to the finish.
We finished the ride in 8 hours and 15 minutes. Gary said it was the fastest that he had ever done the ride. I think he could have gone faster without me. We did have a long stop at the last store but it was needed. I have a sunburn and had a really good time. My back is better so i guess biking cured it. I came home and gave two massages and had my buddies over for pizza. i am one beat girl.
I have another 200k tomorrow but Gary and I decided to ride easier.
RATS- well mouse traps were what was put out and I think it just pissed the rats off or scared them off. One of them was moved to another place but still had the cheese on it and stuff. I did not hear a rat last night but I slept hard. This afternoon I was too lazy to check but I am in hopes that I will have me a rat soon. I really do hate going into the attick. I was trying to look at is as firefighter training but the truth is that I am not going to be dealing with those guys when a fire is going off. I will have a huge hose to blow them out of the way. If i see a dead one I think I am going to have to beg someone else to come by and get it. I get the creeps going into the attick.
